The Number 1 ladies’ Detective Agency

Precious Ramotswe has set up a detective agency, the first of its kind in Botswana. This book follows her setting up the business, and her first few cases that enable her to establish a name for herself. There are several different cases that Precious is able to solve, including a missing boy.
Another first for me, I have heard great things about this book and it did not disappoint. I loved the way that the stories wove together and there was the continuity throughout as well as having individual stories. I read it more as a collection of short stories as each chapter provided an outline of one case that was taken on by Precious, who started her own business following the death of her father with the money he left to her.

The plot was really engaging, and I was really drawn into the story, with beautiful descriptions of the country and a relatable protagonist, this was an easy read. The stories were quite short however, meaning that this was an exploration of Precious going around solving other people’s problems rather than a chance to try to solve each of the individual stories (was not expecting it but I did still enjoy it.).

I loved the ending, with everything major being resolved, it did bring a tear to your eye at the end. I have only one question…. who was it that was in her garden and whispered her name around ¾’s of the way through the book? I may have missed that but it didn’t seem that obvious to me really.
